Jamres Auger & JImmy Loizeau often combine the human body and machines and/or apparatus’ to make augmented sensory experiences.

Hiroo Iwata’s medium is “Device Art” and known for his works that attempt to guide the viewer’s senses to new perspectives

Prof. Steve Mann creates wearable, robotic body augmentations and art.

Jochem Hendricks combined wearable robotics, computer vision and his own eyes with his 1992-1993 Eye Drawings.

Abstract

My project will focus on exploring the interaction between humans and technology specifically when interacting machines that carry human or animal-like qualities. My piece will combine robotic, performance and video art to create an objective look at how our society separates art, technology and intelligent life.

I’m going to create a wearable/portable personable robotic “friend” with face-tracking and video recording capabilities so that the robot will record a video each time it detects a face looking in its direction. I will then wear this robot to different parts of Seattle in order to get a video profile of how we people react to technology in an unfamiliar form. I will then create a video piece from the footage shot to be shown in tandem with the robot. This complete system will be: Me->My Body->Robot->The External World->Video->Me.

My Role: I am more than just a transport unit, I decide what to look at and where to go. I also decide the content of the final piece.

Robot’s Role: Create content.
